National Tourism Week

In celebration of National Tourism Week, May 5-13, 2012, the Douglasville Convention and Visitors Bureau will be awarding the top hospitality workers in May. From amongst all the winners, one person will be awarded the "Hospitality Worker of the Year" award. We will also be awarding two organizations who have the most "Spirit."

Historic Downtown Douglasville St. Patrick’s Day Celebration

Come join in the “Best Irish Festival west of Atlanta” at the annual Historic Downtown Douglasville St. Patrick’s Day Celebration! The two-day event will take place at the Irish Bread Pub and on O'Neal Plaza in downtown Douglasville featuring live Celtic, rock and rockabilly music, as well as Irish dancers, bagpipes, giveaways and more! This can’t miss event is fun for the entire family.

Douglasville's Got Talent Competition

The Penny McHenry Hydrangea Festival is a two-day event named in honor of Penny McHenry, American Hydrangea Society founder. In celebration of the festival, Douglas County homes and businesses decorate their property with hydrangeas and ribbons. Kicking of the weekend is the Festival Market, Saturday, June 2 from 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. A flower show runs Saturday 12:30 - 5 p.m. and continues Sunday 1 - 5 p.m. With the festival market, garden tours, national award-winning flower show, exquisite tea, food, and entertainment, the Hydrangea Festival is an event not to be missed.

Wednesday Wind Down

Presented by the Black Education Historical Exhibit (BEHE) to thank supporters and to kickoff Juneteenth festivities. John Stewart, Tuskegee Atlanta Chapter member and former Public Relations Officer, will be the guest of honor and keynote speaker. The reception will also feature other members of Atlanta Chapter, Tuskegee Airmen, Inc.

Presented by the Black Education Historical Exhibit (BEHE) and supported by both city and county governments, Juneteenth is a celebration commemorating the ending of slavery in the U.S. Festivities include vendor booths, face painting, storytelling, book signings, speakers, musical performances, health screenings and senior bingo.

Summer Sampler Wine & Food Tasting

The Summer Sampler is presented by the Douglasville Downtown Development Authority. Tickets entitle each guest to a Summer Sampler souvenir glass, light hors d’oeuvres, live music and sample wine tasting in an entertaining atmosphere surrounded by an art gallery.

July 4th Parade and Fireworks
Date: July 4
Time: 10 a.m. Parade; Fireworks start at dark

Fee: Free and open to the public. $25 parade float registration.

Patriotic parade along Church Street in downtown Douglasville. Fireworks displayed from West Pines Golf Course. Best viewing sites include Arbor Place Mall and surrounding areas.

Independence Day Festival
