Downtown Douglasville

Main Street Program

Logo - A classic Georgia Main Street City. The Main Street Douglasville program consists of a Main Street Manager, The Downtown Development Authority (DDA) board of directors, and four committees that include a variety of representatives from the community. Typically, our volunteers represent business and property owners, residents, city officials, financial institutions, schools, religious institutions, civic groups, preservationists, media, etc. The DDA board guides policy, funding, and planning for the Main Street program.

The Main Street manager is responsible for managing the program, coordinating volunteers, assisting with program implementation, and acting as a primary spokesperson for the organization. Besides working with the DDA board and committees the Main Street Manager focuses on a specific aspects of the Downtown revitalization, such as business development, property development, or coordination of promotional activities.

The Main Street Douglasville program committees correspond to the four points of the Main Street approach — Organization, Design, Promotion, and Economic Restructuring.

The Organization committee is the component of the Main Street Program that manages the key elements of the program.  The Organization committee initiates fundraising opportunities, maintains and sustains the committees, and assists with strategic planning.

The Design committee's goal is to enhance the attractiveness of the business district through historic building rehabilitation, street and alley clean-up, colorful banners, landscaping, and lighting thus improving the physical image of the downtown helping it become a quality place to shop, work, walk, invest in, and live.

The Promotions committee creates excitement downtown. Street festivities, parades, retail events and image development campaigns are some of the ways Main Street encourages customer traffic. Promotion involves marketing and branding the downtown image to shoppers, investors and visitors.

The Economic Restructuring committee analyzes current market forces to develop long-term plans and solutions for downtown revitalization.  Recruiting new businesses, creatively converting unused space for new uses and sharpening the competitiveness of Main Street’s traditional merchants are examples of economic restructuring activities.
